Bronwyn is an executive member of Australian Legal Sector Alliance (AusLSA), an association that works collaboratively across the legal profession to promote sustainable practices. She was a founding member of the Australian Legal Practice Management Association (ALPMA), and was national president for three years 2007-2010. Bronwyn was instrumental in the establishment of a national qualification in Legal Practice Management and in 2010 was named the inaugural Industry ‘Icon’ for her contribution to Legal Management.
In addition to holding a number of private and unlisted public company directorships, until recently she was the Treasurer of the NSW Parent Council, a not for profit charged with representing the parents of children in non-government schools on issues as diverse as government funding, curriculum, teacher standards and parent engagement.
Swaab provides flexible working arrangements, paid maternity leave, breakout spaces equipped for children, genuine equal pay and recognition of the value of the ‘soft’ skills that many women bring to the workplace. It has been said that the practice has a ‘female culture’, but Bronwyn prefers to think of it as ‘gender blind’, as all benefits are available and utilised by both men and women. While she considers gender a ‘non-event’ in her workplace, 8 of the 11 leadership roles within the firm are held by women.
Bronwyn feels she has been the recipient of active promotion from many people during her career and that while everyone will benefit from quality mentoring and coaching, women in particular often need this active support to have the confidence to put up their hand for a senior role. In joining EWA, Bronwyn hopes to gain access to a supportive network of interesting, dynamic women, and to have the opportunity to encourage (and learn from) others.
